Order from Japan - オーダー フロム Japan

I am always happy whenever I have orders from Japan. Today I had a frame which is ordered from Japan.
When people in Japan buy Seven's frames, the price of the frame is very expensive, much more expensive than those in US. I always think that I have to do my best to live up to their expectations.

日本からオーダーが入るといつも嬉しい気持ちになる。今日一台日本からのオーダーを扱った。
日本の人がSeven のフレームを購入するとき、高額な値段になる。アメリカで購入する人達よりもずっと高くなる。それでいつも思うのだが、彼らの期待に答えられるようベストを尽くさなければいけない、と。

KUALIS cross 7 (Rapha color version) - KUALIS クロス７ （Rapha カラーバージョン）

I cleared and polished a little. So I completed this frame. I will ship it next week. I just hope this KUALIS work great for the customer and he is happy with it. And I made sure again that this feeling is the most important thing to make things.
I really like Rapha pink. It's is a nice pink!

クリアコート終了、ポリッシュ少し（ほとんど必要なかった）。このフレームは終了である。来週、シッピング（写真を撮ったら）予定。　後は、ただただこのKUALIS がカスタマーのために活躍してくれることとカスタマーが満足してくれる事を望むだけである。　またこの気持ちがものをつくる人間にとって一番重要だともいまさらながら感じた。
しかし、Rapha のピンクはナイスピンクやね！個人的にこのピンクはかなり好きである。クールやね！

KUALIS cross 6 - KUALIS クロス６

Coloring was done. Tomorrow early morning I am clearing them. After clearing, it should look nice.

ペイント（カラーリング）終了。明日早朝、クリアコートをする。クリアコートをした後はさらにつややかで”ルックスグレイト！”になるだろう。

Advantage of Ti Mtn. - チタンMtn.の有利性

Road, Cross, Mtn... Ti is the best material for Mtn frames, I think. For road, it depends on the tubing set or design if the material is steel or Ti.  Even for cross frame, both steel and Ti are good enough to keep light weight with the strength. So it depends on the design. (Especially, these days, cross race is getting high speed race and getting changed the course condition. BB drop is getting larger than before, too. It is getting close to road bike.  Not the same, though...)
But for Mtn., Ti is good. Ti Mtn. is not as strong or stiff as steel one, but it can be made much lighter than steel, keeping the strength (more than enough). This is an advantage to make Ti Mtn.

ロード、クロス、マウンテン。　チタンはMtn. のフレーム素材に最適ではないかと思う。ロードに関しては、例えばスティールかチタンかとなるとそのチュービングセット、あるいはデザインによる。
クロスにしても同じである。
しかし、Mtn. はチタンが有利である。チタンMtn. はスティールほどの強度ではないがスティールと比べて圧倒的に軽く作れ、必要十分以上の強度と剛性を維持できる。これはMtn. をチタンでつくるアドバンテージであると思う。

Steel tubing and Ti tubing - スティールとチタン

I show a comparison for typical steel and Ti tubing about the weight and stiffness at the joint parts . I take steel (Columbus ZONA) and Ti 3-2.5 as today's example.

Ti - TT (D35/ t0.96), ST (D35/ t0.96), DT (D35/ t0.96), CS (D22/ t0.89), SS (D19/ t0.68)

Steel - TT (D28.6/ t0.7), ST (D28.6/ t0.8), DT (D31.7/ t0.7), CS (D22/ t0.7), SS (D16/ t0.7)

1. TT - Steel has -8% stiffness and +6% weight. (compare to Ti)
2. ST - Steel has +4% stiffness and +21% weight.
3. DT - Steel has +14% stiffness and +18% weight.
4. CS - Steel has +51% stiffness and +41% weight.
5. SS - Steel has +33% stiffness and + 52% weight.

Theses numbers are at the joint of the frames. If you make these two frames, steel one is much stiffer and stronger than Ti, but heavier instead (around the joint).
It is a key point to think about the stiffness and weight to design a frame for each customer.

これらの数値はジョイント部分である。もしこれら2台のバイクを作った場合、スティールのほうがより強く、剛性があるが、同時により重いものになる。
カスタマーに応じたフレームの剛性と重量について考える事は、カスタマーにあったフレームをデザインする上で一つのキーポイントになる。

KUALIS cross 5 - KUALIS クロス5

I made sure the color with actual Rapha jerseys at Ride studio cafe last weekend. (This customer has raced in C1 for a long time and he wears a Rapha jersey. He wants a frame color to fit his jersey.)
So I mixed the colors I need and started to paint. First is Rapha pink. After that, I masked the frame and fork for the next color and made the other colors, blue and red.

実際のRapha Jersey のカラーをチェックをするため先週末にRide Studio Cafe に行って来た。（このカスタマーはC1でレースをしてきたベテランのシクロクロスレーサーで、Rapha Jersey を着るのでフレームもそれにマッチングしたカラーを、という要望である。）
今朝早くそのカラーチップを基にまずRapha Pink を配合し第一段階のペイントを終了した。その後、仕事を終えた後、フレームとフォークのマスキングをし、残りの必要な色を配合し、今日は終了。明日早朝、セカンドカラーに入る。

KUALIS cross 4- KUALIS クロス4

I primed the frame and fork. I am going to Ride studio cafe with color chips to make sure the real Rapha pink and to drink some coffee this weekend. Next week I am going to start painting finally.

フレームとフォークのプライミング（下地塗り）を終えた。この週末にRide studio cafe にコーヒーを飲みに行くついでに、現物のRapha pink をカラーチップをもって確認をしに行く予定である。
