I had the head machinist in Seven to check my milling machine in my shop this late afternoon. I questioned something about my machine this mornig, but he said "OK I will check your machine this afternoon." So he came to my shop. I really appreciate his kindness. Anyway there was nothing problem on my machine. That was good. When I saw him doing something on my machine, I thought "he really likes machines...". I like this type of people.

今日の午後Seven のヘッドマシー二スト（Skip）に自分のチューブ加工用のマシーンをチェックしてもらった。というのも、今朝ちょっと聞きたい事がいくつかあったので彼にたずねたところ、”今日の午後見にいってあげるよ”といってくれたのでそういう成り行きになった次第である。彼の親切には感謝している。で、いろいろとチェックしてもらった。そしてふとそんな彼を見ていて思ったのだが、彼は本当に”機械”が好きなんだろうなー、と。僕はこういうタイプの人が好きである。

Jon.H is a machinist in Seven. I posted about him before. He is also a photographer. I ask him when I want someone to take good photoes. I really think he is good at taking pictures. His father is a pro photographer and he is, too.

ジョン. H　はSeven のマシー二ストである。以前紹介したと思うが。彼はまたフォトグラファーでもある。何かいい写真を撮ってほしいときは、彼に頼むようにしている。彼は実にいい写真を撮ると思う。彼のお父さんがプロのフォトグラファーであり、彼もまた今プロとしての活動もしている。

She has a project to make a tricycle for her little baby as a birthday present. ( I posted about her before as another great welder.)
She already has a wheel, fork, head parts (Chris king!)... and some scraps to make some parts of the tricycle. She is cool and a great mother for her baby!!

彼女は彼女の小さな子供のために三輪車を誕生日プレゼントとして作ることを計画している。（彼女の事は以前、もう一人の素晴らしいウェルダーとして紹介している。）
もう既に、車輪、フォーク、ヘッドパーツ（クリスキング！）、そして幾らかのTi チューブ（スクラップから集めてきた）を準備している。それにしても彼女は、なんてクールでグレイトなママだろう。

Carrier rack artisan? - キャリアラック職人？

When we have orders of carrier rack from customers, he mostly makes them. If you request it with your design, he makes it. But if you just order your rack, he designs and makes it. It's great (or dengerous (No,
I'm just a joking! Realy great!).
He is a good welder and a machinist. He is very friendly and funny, so everyone likes him.
His welding career is long, more than 10 years. He is one of my senior welders.

カスタマーからキャリアラックのオーダーが入ると、彼がその製作のほとんどを担当する。もしあなたがデザインしそれをオーダーすれば、彼はそのデザインに従い製作する。しかしもし、ただ”ラック”とだけオーダーすれば、彼がデザインしそれを作る。それは素晴らしい！（あるいは危険かも！いやいや、そんなことは決してありません。）
彼はウェルダーでありマシー二ストでもある。非常にフレンドリーでおもしろいので、皆から好かれている。
彼のウェルディングのキャリアは長い、10年以上である。彼は私の先輩ウェルダーの一人である。

Frame welders in US - アメリカのフレームウェルダー

Today's welding

There are many frame welders in the world. I don't know all of them, of course, but I have tried to pay attention many types of frame welding since I was in Japan. For example, about brazing, there are many great NJS brazers in Japan. And about frame welders, there are many great welders in US. Their skill level is very high. Especially for Ti frame welders, I would say some of them (MOOTS, Independent Fabrication, Firefly...) will be top-class welders in the world.
So I am very glad to be able to train myself in such a situation in US.

たくさんのフレームウェルダーたちが世界中にいる。もちろん全てを知っているわけではないのだが、日本にいる時から、様々なタイプのフレーム溶接を見てきた。例えばろう付けに関していうならば、日本には素晴らしいスキルを持ったNJS ビルダーたちがいる。そしてウェルダーに関していうならば、素晴らしいフレームウェルダーたちがここアメリカにたくさん存在する。特にチタンフレームに関しては、MOOTS やIndependent Fabrication 、Firefly などのウェルダー達は世界でもトップクラスだと言えるだろう。
そんな環境にいる自分、そしてそんな環境で自分を鍛錬することができるということに喜びを感じている。

Welder L.T - ウェルダー L.T

Well organized.

She is a good welder in Seven. When I first visited Seven, she was not a welder, but a finisher. Maybe, we both started to practice welding around the same time, I think. I had wanted to weld frames so much since I came to Seven. She might have wanted , too, I guess...
Some people have tried to practice welding, but not everyone can be a welder (less than 50%). It's so difficult. But she became. She may also know how cool and exciting welding is because of the difficulty. I hope she will keep being a good welder.

彼女はSeven のグッドウェルダーのひとりである。自分が初めてSeven を訪れた時、彼女はまだウェルダーではなくフィニッシャーだった。多分ウェルディングの練習を始めた時期が自分とほぼ同時期ではなかったかと思う。自分の方はとにかくウェルディングをしたいとずっと思っていたのだけれど、もしかしたら彼女もまたそう思っていたのかもしれない。。。
何人かの人達がウェルディングの練習にトライしてきたが、全ての人がなれるわけではない。（半分以下であることは確かである。）それだけ難しい。しかし彼女はウェルダーになったわけである。恐らく彼女もまたウェルディングがその難しさゆえに、いかにクールでエキサイティングなことか知っているのだろう。彼女にはウェルダーであり続けてほしいと思う。

Machining man 2 – マシーニング男２

He is a senior machinist in the company. He looks hard to please, but in fact, he is a funny man, I think. When I came to Seven, I learned the machining process mostly from him. I first couldn’t understand what he said because his speaking was too fast for me and he just taught me only key points (Maybe it's his character.). So for a while, I just had to imagine the process and what it means through watching his action.
However, he is a machinist who understands well what to do and he can concentrate on doing it. As a result, he works fast. (It was actually hard to follow up his pace in the beginning.) He seems to be able to manage his concentration. Managing concentration is pretty important to work effectively. I also try to manage my concentration, though. In any event, he is a crucial machinist in the company.

彼はベテランマシー二ストである。一見、彼は気難しそうに見えるが、実際はなかなか面白い男である。Sevenに来てマシーニングプロセスをまず学んだが、それはほとんど彼から教わった。最初のうちは彼の喋りが速すぎて、それと要点しか言わないという彼の性格のおかげでほとんど彼の言っていることが理解できなかった。しばらくの間、ただただ彼の行動を見てそれが何を意味するのかイメージして学ぶしかなかった。
しかしながら彼は何をすべきかをよく理解し、集中してやることができるマシー二ストである。結果として仕事が速い。（実際初めの頃は、彼のペースについていくのに四苦八苦した。）彼は集中力をマネージすることが出来るように思う。集中力をマネージすることは非常に重要で仕事の効率を上げる。自分もいつもそうするよう努めているが。
とにもかくにも彼は会社に居てもらわないと困るマシー二ストである。

I posted about another great welder before, but I couldn't take her welding pictures. Today I took some. The feature of her welding is elegant anyway, not coarse at all. It is uniform. In order to have great welding, you not only have lots of experience, but also always need to be aware of the relation ; torch moving speed, amount of heat which needs sufficient penetration, wire timing and the amount, and welding trace line. By being more conscious about the relation and keep seeking the best relation, I think I can improve my welding skill. I wouldn't be a great welder if I just repeatedly weld.

もう一人の素晴らしいウェルダーについて以前書いたが写真を撮る事が出来なかった。今日丁度タイミングよく撮れたので載せます。彼女の溶接の特徴はいつも上品に溶接をすること、全く粗悪でない（当然だけど）、そして常に等間隔である。このような素晴らしいウェルディングができるようになるためには、たくさんの経験だけでなく、トーチの移動速さ、十分な溶け込みを必要とする熱量、溶棒のタイミングと量、そして溶接のトレースラインといったことを意識することが必要である。このようなことをより意識することにより、そして常にベストな感覚を探り続けることで、技術が上がるのだと思う。ただ繰り返し溶接しているだけでは素晴らしいウェルダーにはなれないだろう。
