Cutting method for steel tube - スティールチューブのカッティング手法

Steel tubing for high-end bikes is usually double butted tubing. That is to make the tube lighter and have a strength and stiffness on both sides. When I design a steel frame, I rather pay attention the thicker parts (not thinner part) on both sides of the tube (main tubes). I never cut off only one side of the tube, but cut both sides to keep double butt. It makes a well-balanced frame. Unless it is kept, the tube doesn't show the maximize ability.
This is an significant matter in steel frame design process.

ハイエンドのスティールチューブはたいていダブルバテッド管になっているが、それは両端（ジョイント部になる）に剛性を残しつつ、チューブを軽くするためである。自分がスティールフレームをデザインする時、薄い部分ではなくむしろ両側の厚い部分に注意を払っている（メインチューブ）。つまりチューブをカットした後両側の厚い部分を必ず残すようにしている。そうすることにより、チューブが組み合わさった後バランスの良いフレームになる。決して片側から寸法を測りカットするなんて事は当然しない。なぜなら、ダブルバテッドをキープしてこそそのチューブの持つアビリティーが発揮されるからである。
これはスティールフレームをデザインする上で、重要な事柄だと思っている。
